Originally from Darwin, Cameron is a small midfielder who plays with tremendous passion. His U18’s campaign for the Northern Territory Thunder in 2007 was outstanding. Captaining the side he showed the football community that he was a hard working midfielder with the capability of being very creative in front of goals and had exceptional leadership qualities.
As a result of his efforts in Darwin at U18 level, Hawthorn picked him up in the 2007 AFL Rookie Draft with their round 4 pick, with the view of adding depth to their small men brigade.
Cameron's hard work paid off when he was promoted to the senior list at the beginning of the 2008 season and immediately made his AFL debut in Round 1 against Melbourne.
Stokes played nine matches in his debut season, primarily as a small forward with stints in the midfield and impressed with his speed, ferocious attack on the ball and opponents and nous around goal.
Stokes managed 10 games during the 2009 season but had hamstring and shoulder problems and then ruptured his ACL at the end of the year with Box Hill. Stokes will be in rehab for most of the 2010 season with the aim of playing a few games towards the end of the season.
